Soft-sediment deformation · Cross section
Slump folds
Tight folds in a sediment layer bounded by undeformed beds.
- How it forms
- Sediment on a slope fails and moves downslope under gravity.
- Typical setting
- Sloping depositional surfaces
- Way up
- Not effective as way-up indicators and easily confused with tectonic folds.
- Flow direction
- Can indicate paleoslope direction once way-up is known from other structures.
