Igneous rock

Granite

Felsic, intrusive and coarse-grained (phaneritic). Essential quartz (over 20%) and feldspar, with alkali feldspar making up roughly 35–100% of the feldspar and plagioclase the rest.

In thin section

Quartz, alkali feldspar (often microcline or perthitic orthoclase) and plagioclase, with hornblende and biotite the most common mafic minerals; muscovite is frequent.

Equivalent: Rhyolite is its fine-grained volcanic equivalent.
